Truro, an Outer Cape Cod TownTruro is a quaint and lovely town on outer Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Quiet and tranquil winters fit in between bustling summer tourist seasons each year, as thousands flock to Truro to enjoy the ocean beaches, the salt meadows and cranberry bogs and the friendly people who live here. In July of 2009, on the 16th to be precise, Truro will be celebrating 300 years of history as an incorporated town on the outer Cape. The occasion, and in fact, the year will be marked by parties and parades and fireworks and so much more. Truro's HistoryIn the 300 years since its establishment, Truro has seen many iterations of itself, from a thriving fishing and whaling community, to a farming community, to today's haven for summer visitors. Over the years, it has also been home to many artists and writers, from Edward Hopper to Sebastian Junger. Throughout all that time, and all those versions of itself, though, Truro has remained a small and astonishingly beautiful community. You'll find no malls or supermarkets in Truro, and not even a traffic light. What you will find are glorious beaches, deep and clear fresh-water kettle ponds, and vistas of salt meadows and cranberry bogs. Among the local color you will find some whose Truro roots predate the 1709 incorporation. Truro's Year of CelebrationTruro's 300th birthday party will celebrate that proud past, relish its thriving present, and contemplate its promising future. Please join us for our parties and parades, learn of our history, take town tours and attend reenactments of Truro events. Truro is the place to be in 2009. Please do join us for the celebration throughout the year. |
